Next season won't start soon enough to satisfy Proviso West junior Ryan Woods.
The 6-foot-4 Woods was one of a half-dozen juniors who played major minutes down the stretch for the Panthers (14-16) in the recently concluded season.
"We had a very young team," said Woods, who will be dividing his time in the offseason between football and basketball.

During a frantic fourth quarter, Smith summoned senior guard Ashley Oliver, junior guard Ciera Howard and freshman guard Kennedy Cattenhead in rapid-fire succession, rolling the dice on reserves to play a big role.
One by one, his relatively unknown Raider trio hit the jackpot -- Oliver with her defense and steady ball-handling, Kenn
Coming into that situation, the state championship game and sometimes not knowing if you're going to play, that was really big. I was so proud of them, and proud for them, because it was such a great team effort. -Anthony Smith

A well-rested Morgan Tuck, a battle-tested Nicosia Henry, a lest-we-forget surge from Cabriana Capers and the continued best-point-guard-ever showcase of Ariel Massengale saved the Bolingbrook girls basketball team Saturday night.
Put away, for a second, that classic book by John Feinstein about Bobby Knight coaching those Indiana Hoosiers.
This was an even better version of "A Season on the Brink" -- the Raiders turning the page at Redbird Arena as the answer to a sudden 47-47 tie.
We were definitely looking to Morgan -Mercedes Griffin

The new standards are likely to touch off a vast effort to rewrite textbooks, train teachers and produce appropriate tests, if a critical mass of states adopts them in coming months, as seems likely.
But there could be opposition in some states, like Massachusetts, which already has high standards that advocates may want to keep.
"Many states have too many expectations in their academic standards that force teachers to cover too much in a superficial way," said Gene Wilhoit, executive director of the Co
